It's been hard to escape the controversy with Spotify this week. If you're like me, your timelines have been filled with hot takes and interesting perspectives (hopefully, leaning more toward the latter).

I assure you this won't be the millionth-and-one essay you've read on it, but I do have a few nuanced thoughts about it and what's at the root of a lot of people's angst.

I love music and Spotify (neither of those is exciting news). The platform has been a passport to worlds I never could've gone to otherwise. It has also allowed me to foster connections with people I'd have never met- if you're one of the people reading this that don't live with me, that includes you).

We can quibble about audio quality and debate the ethics of artist pay, but the calculus still generally works in the listener's favor.
