Good morning! Today we’re dropping the needle on Bowery Electric’s “Empty Words.” At first, it’s a quieter song, but listen closer and it’s more textured than it first seems.
Similarly, where I live winter has finally shown up in earnest. Temps are in the teens and the landscape is now monochromatic. It too seems quiet at first, but look closer, and there’s a lot of activity.
That might be a coarse analogy, but it seems fitting to me as I type this while looking out at the sun low in the sky.
Bowery Electric was a New York-based band formed by Lawrence Chandler and Martha Schwendener. They put out 3 full-length records and a handful of singles before splitting up in 2000. Chandler went on to work with the likes of Eddie Provost and My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields.
Schwendener released a solo record and went on to become a professor and art critic.

What do you think about this record? When/where’d you first hear it? Is it cold where you’re at? I’d love to find out!
