I had read about this band since the 90's in magazines and had never heard them before. They are called Green On Red. This album, their debut was originally released in the early 80's but still sounds great. Love the organ, makes the LP slightly psychedelic.
Few years back, when it was time to put a face to the next generation of super star Djs, many from the global underground community put their faith in the legendary Anthony Pappa. https://open.spotify.com/track/18k64Fjx1gZnh017XdteP6
Hi Kevin and fellow readers/writers! Loooved seeing some INXS in there! As for Tina, my favourite album is Workin' Together. Not only because of classics like Proud Mary. I think that whole album embodies some of her best work.
Hi Kevin! About Tina, when I was a kid, being the younger of two brothers and two sisters, a lot radio-formula was being played and my first good memories of her come from “Private Dancer” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. Of course, later I discovered she had a long career before and more good songs were to come.
Not from Tina, this is one of the songs that I have discovered this week and I’m considering to add it to next updates of Reflect & Relax Cafe. A mature voice accompanied by a very nice music: https://youtu.be/Can9k0IgBRs
South Hill Experiment album 'Moonshot', it's... indescribable? Was strangely drawn to The Frames 'For The Birds' & Clem Snide's 'Your Favorite Music' as well.
Been revisiting the history of industrial following the newest trash theory episode. At the moment I'm past the musique concrete and throbbing gristle eras I already know pretty well and into the ebm stuff I don't, like nitzer ebb
Nice! Any new favorites? I really like Nitzer Ebb, but I saw them on what had to be an off night. The show wasn't even interesting enough to be bad. It was just... uninspired? It was weird.
I've spent waaaaay too much time living in a pre-2010 musical world this past week. It's been a blast, but also looking forward to coming back to the present starting tomorrow.
That said, I have found a few gems that even I had forgotten about, like Meryn Cadell - The Sweater:
I'm retroing my mood and synthesizing it up with Human League. I got to thinking about some of the lyrics and how unsuitable and problematic they could be in this age. All very stalkerish. And Louise?
That has 'I'm a nice guy' entitlement vibes...lol...best not scratch too hard under the cover right?
The Popsicko record is awesome. You might've seen it, but the reissue comes with a 48 page oral history of the band written by friend of On Repeat SW Lauden. I can't get enough of Mass Romantic. I've been seeing sparkle*jets u.k. everywhere-I think the universe is trying to tell me something!
Went on a run through Tina's catalogue. What a loss. Saw and photographed The Avett Brothers this week, so went down that path again. Also on a real James McMurtry kick again; his most recent, The Horses and the Hounds is excellent.
WOWZA! Thanks very much, Kevin. It means a lot to me to be on your playlist, especially as a big fan or your work and newsletter. Humbled infinite gratitude. Also- great playlist! I've been listening to a lot of Tina which led me to some nice 70s soul and 80s synth pop (amazing that an artists can do both of those things). Been on a Pointer Sisters kick... https://open.spotify.com/track/0yPEHHXezar80rMIQVRfTu?si=bc8ed856b5094588
"The Pointer Sisters have some really good deep cuts" is a sentence I never envisioned myself writing, but here we are. "I Need You" is one of my faves from that album.
We're listening to Del Barber (episode drops tomorrow) and the audiobook of Bono's autobiography. It is EXACTLY as you might imagine his book to be. At times pretentious, funny, sarcastic, self-effacing, ironic, a story of true love between all of them and those around them, you get very little on the creation of songs and the like. It's a bit blowhardy... do I think for ONE SECOND that he FORGOT to tell his wife that Mikeal Gorbechev was popping over for Sunday Tea? No. I don't... but it's a GREAT story regardless. The Irish are good at weaving a good yarn. If you like U2, you'll like this.
I'll definitely check the book out. If nothing else, one of my coworkers is a massive U2 fan- he'll love it. And I'll be checking out tomorrow's Abandoned Albums episode. I'm just getting to Mo Troper now.
I love seeing INXS at your #1!

Speaking of the slightly spooky and psychedelic, this live set from Wet Tuna has been in my late night rotation

& for some lo-fi punk rock I stumbled onto this album this week.

Really gets the blood pumping.
RIP Tina Turner.

That's a new one for me. I'm on it!
Are you all finished with this leg of your book tour?
Me too!
After a brief interlude I'm back on the road tomorrow: Nevada, SLC, Phoenix and Rancho Mirange!
Right on. I hope the SW swing is as much fun/successful as this one was!

Liaisons Dangerouses and Die Krupps were both new ones who I liked quite a bit, as well as Pierre Schaeffer who I'd never listened to.
Wow! Is that my LABELabel mate @MITER on your playlist? Awesome!
Indeed it is!
Fantastic! Miter makes great stuff!
Feel free to check out the other LABELable artists @qidlove and @polyestercity too. You can also check out my stuff at

Oh, and Don't Change landed at Lap 434 🏁🏎️🏁
I was able to tune in a little bit here and there over the course of the race (thanks for the link, btw!). Some great tracks.
The thing on the turntable today: Makaya McCraven's album In These Times. Here's the Spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/album/1HZw70A6Y71aDRIkPtW7e0?si=oB7ReP_PRWit2O3IAhYCTw

Yep, surprised to enjoy the entire album, but I do.
