Happy Monday and welcome to this week’s open thread! Below is a bit of what I’ve had on heavy rotation over the past week, but I’d like to hear from you too.
What’s on heavy rotation in your world? Got something we should all check out? Share it below!
Ourobouros! What an album. Really wish LaMontagne would do more psychedelic stuff. If you haven't heard it, Strand of Oaks' 'Eraserland' is another great "My Morning Jacket as a backing band" album.
You know how I discovered My Morning Jacket? An episode of American Dad where Steve and Stan are stoned at their summer cabin. The track was "Slow, Slow Tune".
Found myself listening to Send Away The Tigers by Manic Street Preachers a lot recently. It's a fairly lightweight, throwaway album by their standards but I think that's why I like it. It's quite summery in places. The Manics are rarely summery.
Three interesting things I've been listening to over the past week:
1. Khruagbin -- interesting 3-piece from Houston, mixing all kinds of styles. Groovy, slightly psychedelic, a little bit of surf, and a bunch of other things thrown in for good measure. https://youtu.be/vWLJeqLPfSU
2. Frank Zappa's Apostrophe album. A classic, but one where I discover something new with each listen.
3. Brown Sabbath -- funky latin soul band called Brownout covers Black Sabbath, complete with horn arrangements etc. Sounds a bit like if Los Lobos, Chicago, and Black Sabbath had themselves a party.
Khruangbin grew on me slowly, but now Texas Moon gets played quite a bit at my house. You've definitely got my attention with that description of Brown Sabbath's sound! I'll cue them up here shortly!
I'm a day late to the party but one of the bands I've covered for the local rag has a new single out and I'm loving it - Gold Tides "So Far So Good" think you'll dig, great surf rock/shoegaze hybrid!
Kid Loco has my heart this week

That's a new one for me! I'll check it out here shortly.
Weapon of choice was the second song I featured on my newsletter! What a fun coincidence!
I’m listening to Ray LaMontagne’s Ourobouros. Bloody brilliant stuff.
Great minds think alike! :)

Wow, that’s great! Welcome to the MMJ family - one of my all-time favs!
Slowdive's Souvlaki and the new Damien Jurado and Beach House albums...and latest from Jack White!!!
+1 For Slowdive & Beach House! I haven't listened to Jack White's latest...yet.
Let me know what you think!!!
Here for the Damien Jurado shout! One of my all-time favs. What do you think of the new album?
It's hypnotic--really smooth and settling for these unsettled days!

Rarely indeed!
been very into the new olivia kaplan song, tegan and sara, and boston by augustana
You're probably way ahead of me, but Tegan & Sara have a pretty cool Substack worth checking out.
yes! love it, and have always really liked how personable they are with their audience, even before their newsletter
I'm obsessed with Young Gun Silver Fox after your interview last week!
Right on! I'm really happy to hear that.
Funnily enough I watched the performance by Stereloab on early/mid 90s UK show The Word more than once last week. Is it the definitive version?

Just watched. That was fantastic!
Currently digging Hermanos Gutierrez. Takes me away to the desert. Cowboy movie desert, not Stoner Rock desert

That’s right up my alley. I’m on it!
