Kevin, your mention of Flipside got me thinking: ever read MRR (Maximum RockNRoll)? I think this was one of the best sources of info for bands during the 90s for me.
Always happy to see Jawbreaker mentions! I lived in the Bay Area during their heyday and saw them several times, plus a friend of mine ran Shredder Records, who put out Unfun. While I think 4/30/96 does a decent job of putting their career at the time into some perspective, a couple of anthems are missing ("Want"and "Chesterfield King") as you said, it doesn't quite capture the actual experience of a live show and the crowd all screaming in unison "I want you!" over and over. Just my thoughts...and great piece Kevin!
There was a time when they were sort of infamous for either missing or skipping PDX shows. Nothing untoward, and it kind of became a running joke for a bit. At any rate, I hope you have a blast diving in--lots of great stuff in their records.
Ah, this has a raw Presidents of the United States of America vibe to it. Very nineties, indeed. Another nice disovery for me, not sure this ever crossed the Atlantic.
I feel like we had a lot of that going on in Portland. Straight from Seattle to California or the other way around. I had to go to the King Dome or the Tacoma Dome way to many times to see someone that was skipping Portland.
Right on! Thanks for the link.
That's a great way to put it!

I honestly can't remember ever picking up a copy. I mean, I'm sure I did at some point, but my mind is drawing a blank.
Probably won't ring any bells for you, but these were central for me for a couple of years: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1419637727/maximum-rocknroll-december-1995-151-part?external=1&rec_type=ad&ref=landingpage_similar_listing_top-3&sts=1&plkey=c4ecb6d76a47604970c357a312bde1af815b136a%3A1419637727

Thank you! And I would've loved to have seen 'Chesterfield King' on this one too.
Totally missed them on the first go around. Can't wait to dive into their music and see what I missed.
