Welcome to another edition of For The Record, the weekly newsletter that brings the world of music news straight to your inbox. Part essay, part good old-fashioned link drop, this is a benefit for paid supporters of On Repeat.
As a reminder, On Repeat is 100% reader-funded. And as always, there are 7-day trials for anyone looking to test the waters.
This week, we’ve got news on Jane’s Addiction, Billy Joel, and The Judybats.
All that and a LOT more, including an update on the murder trial of Jam Master Jay, Jimmy Butler, and Cat Janice.
Let’s get to it!
Time flies when you’re having fun.
This past Thursday, my station had one of its regular town halls. 90% of what gets shared in these falls under the “this could’ve been an email” category—and there a LOT of PowerPoint slides— but sometimes there are cool bits of info, too.
At the end of this meeting, a coworker and I were surprised with plaques noting our 25+ years of service. We had both passed that milestone long before this week, but for a host of legitimate (and extremely boring) reasons, these weren’t ready until very recently.
As part of the presentation, our immediate supervisor made slides for each of us, noting our hire dates, what the weather was like on the day we’d each started (Minneapolis, Portland), and what the #1 song in the country was when we first walked through the doors. His was ‘One Week’ by The Barenaked Ladies. I was stuck with Elton John’s ‘Candle In the Wind.’
Gotta take the good with the bad, I guess.
