The Best Record of 1989 bracket was rolled out this week. There will be a bit more time before everything kicks off to ensure users on Bluesky and those who only see Kent’s newsletter have time to see everything that made the cut.

Naturally, I reacted in a totally normal, not at all unhinged way by posting:

We all know this is a lie. Really, I just need the time to pre-schedule some pro-Technique content. The slide toward On Repeat becoming a New Order fan page just increased to Defcon 4 (or whatever the next level up is).

We can laugh about that (and please do!), but I will also be unapologetically insufferable about something more serious: democracy—or rather, our collective defense of it.

I found myself thinking about this recently while stuck behind a Cybertruck on the freeway. As I finally got a chance to pass him, I looked over. Dear reader, he looked exactly like you think he would, except in a dress shirt and tie. Maybe a salesperson? I don't know, but there was enough incongruity to get me wondering about the backstory. He seemed like a decent guy. Maybe he just bought at the wrong time? Perhaps he was all in on what's happening in DC. Maybe he was just trying to get to his kid's game.

Trying to keep the columns straight in 2025 is fucking work.
