Welcome to another edition of For The Record, a good old-fashioned link drop and benefit for paid supporters of On Repeat.
As a reminder, On Repeat is 100% reader-funded. And as always, there are 7-day trials for anyone looking to test the waters.
This week, we’ve got news on Grimes, Shakira, Pearl Jam, and Paramore.
All that and a LOT more, including two of our friends ranking R.E.M.’s records, another pair celebrating Fountains of Wayne, and a heapin’ helpin’ of lists.
Let’s get to it!
For the last several years, I’ve been part of a standing pickup soccer league at our local athletic club. Like clockwork, the lot gets exponentially more crowded each year for a few weeks before dropping off again, as people resolve to ‘do something’ only to lose interest/faith/whatever a few weeks later.
The bank of treadmills overlooking the field goes from 2-3 people to standing room only before emptying again. And why does the treadmill have the resolution market cornered, anyway? It might just be me, but I think people would have better luck sticking to something like playing racquetball or mixing it up. I dunno. Maybe the treadmill lobby is just too strong.
It’s happened for long enough now that we started informally betting on the over/under on how long it would take to be able to get a good parking spot again. And just to be clear, we NEVER bet on anyone specific—they could’ve just as easily been one of us (and sometimes were).
