They called him the King of the Buses.
Nicknames are a funny thing. You have no say in them, and yet they become your identity. Most of the time, you wind up embracing them. Throughout my career, I’ve known several people better than some of my family, and yet, if pressed, I would have no idea what the name on their license says. Funny how that works.
Sometimes, they’re profane, and sometimes, the result of so many iterations that the original inspiration is no longer recognizable. Sometimes, they’re linguistically convenient. KA (“Kay Ay”) is just easier to say at 4 AM, ya know?
Sometimes, they just fit.
