Welcome to another edition of For The Record, a good old-fashioned link drop and benefit for paid supporters of On Repeat. If you’re ready to become one, we’d be thrilled to have you!
As a reminder, On Repeat is 100% reader-funded. And as always, there are 7-day trials for anyone looking to test the waters.
This week, we’ve got news on Kate Bush, John Darnielle, Swifties, and The Bear.
All that and a LOT more (including new releases, tour dates, and the best turntables for any budget.).
Let’s get to it!
I don't know anyone in this picture, but these are my people.
People who will talk to a stranger about the 'weird impressionistic shit' in a gatefold. People who will stand across from you and sell you on the virtue of Head East's 'Flat As A Pancake' with the same conviction they might bring to a graduation speech. It worked, by the way. He sold me on it, but I'm not sure I'm sold. Yet.
There was the guy who'd take 30 at a time and dish them out with the skill & speed of a casino dealer into three piles I can only assume were yes/no/maybe. Most came right back. There was a little girl under the tables (it was still hot) "guarding" some records while her mom worked her way down the crates. There was no shortage of polka records and plenty of late 70s and early 80s country. I skipped the former and grabbed some of the latter. I passed on the 45s entirely. I'll get interested in them someday, but this wasn't that day. Mom seemed to prefer early 80s classic rock. I hope she and her daughter had a field day when they got home.
