Welcome to another edition of For The Record, a good old-fashioned link drop and benefit for paid supporters of On Repeat. If you’re ready to become one, we’d be thrilled to have you!
As a reminder, On Repeat is 100% reader-funded. And as always, there are 7-day trials for anyone looking to test the waters.
This week, we’ve got news on the demise of AMP, R.E.M., clips of Alvvays & Wilco, and the Texas Rangers.
All of that and a LOT more (like, a lot lot).
Let’s get right into it!
I never managed to get a ticket for the Sufjan Stevens fan train, but seeing the way he has handled a year that would break most people with incredible grace has me rethinking that.
A few weeks ago, we discussed his contracting Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a hellish condition that robs its victims of mobility. As if that wasn't enough, Stevens dedicated his new Javelin record to his partner Evans Richardson, who passed away earlier this year. That eulogy served as a defacto coming out for the musician as well.
That’s a triple whammy I don’t know I could come back from, but Stevens seems to be navigating it all with superhuman poise.
It’s a far cry from what most of our timelines have been filled with this week. I am, of course, talking about the events in Israel. Like many of you, I’ve been giving it much thought this week. It seems only to get more horrific as each new detail comes to light. Just when you think things can’t get any worse, it goes and proves you wrong. There’s already a flood of video footage coursing its way around Twitter and more than enough hot takes to last a lifetime.
