If you were standing next to me at work, two things would be true: You would be very cold, and we would be flanked by workers at the gates next to us, doing the same work as me, but for half the pay. making half what I do.
The difference? They work for vendors, and I don't.
I've been thinking a lot about that and how it ties into music lately after hearing Chappell Roan's comment at the Grammys calling on label execs for health insurance and a living wage for artists. I won't bury the lede here; I agree with her premise...sort of. I think she got it half right but missed the mark—not figuratively, but literally. She was talking to the wrong crowd. Stay with me.
