Welcome to another edition of For The Record, a semi-regular good ol’ fashioned link drop, and benefit for paid supporters of On Repeat. If you’d like to join us, we’d be thrilled to have you!
This week, we’ve got sampling, a Stop Making Sense Q & A, and 7000 words on one of the most hated acts not named Nickelback.
All of that and a lot more! Let’s get right into it.
The music world is a vibrant ecosystem. Some people are household names, some slightly less so, and some are only known within a city or even the local scene. For every Taylor Swift, there are 1000s of artists/musicians only some of us know. And for each of them, there are exponentially more known only to a handful of people.
That lack of notoriety doesn’t make them any less special to those whose lives they’ve touched. Nor does it mean they’re any less talented- they might just be plying their trade in smaller circles or honing their craft in a genre that doesn’t lend itself well to radio. Maybe it’s by choice.
Not everyone wants to top the charts.
