Through a wild convergence of circumstances, I found myself in Niagara, Ontario, this past week.

My sons and I did many of the touristy things you would expect one to do while on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. But we also got to spend a lot of time together, which is an all too rare experience these days. I know this is not exactly revelatory, but I am constantly fascinated by how fast time is screaming by, and nothing drives that home faster than hanging out with one’s teenage children.

This weekend, it manifested itself in strange ways: one of my kids offering to pay for a meal (yes, please!), the other offering to drive our rental car (ha!), but also the adult level of conversations that just a few short years ago seemed a lifetime away—and in a way they were. For something now so foreign, those days seem so familiar.
