This one has been on my playlists forever! If I’m remembering correctly, they were one of Molly Ringwald’s favorite bands, and she was behind having this song in Pretty In Pink.
Not sure that I am all-in on the Rave Ups, but so glad you had that link to hearingade. I can relate to having a song snippet crawl under your skin, not realizing it at the time, later feeling the itch and wondering where it came from, then devoting your waking hours to finding the source of that itch.
God I loved those John Hughes movies! And the soundtracks?!? Pure gold. The Some Kind of Wonderful and Pretty in Pink soundtracks were staples of my teenage listening. Loved both those movies (I was a budding romantic what can I say) and the soundtracks both carried such an emotional weight for me.
I certainly can’t remember seeing a movie in the last couple decades where I was like, “man, I gotta get that soundtrack!” Maybe Guardians of the Galaxy? But those were all songs I knew well and I was nostalgic about them. I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie where I was introduced to music I found interesting. But the 80s and 90s movies seemed full of soundtracks like that
Positively - what a great record and has stood the test of time.
Right?

No kidding? I never knew the connection.
If I remember correctly, Jimmer (lead singer and songwriter) dated Molly's sister, too.

I like this a lot (Forrest Gump voice). New to me!

Those soundtracks were magic. They don't make 'em like that anymore, do they?

Haven’t played this one in a long time. It sort of reminds me of The Call and maybe Translator. Not sure I ever listened to an entire album by them.
The Call! Nicely referenced.
It DOES sound a bit like The Call!
I don’t remember or know this song from back in the day, but I dig it!
Classic song from such an underrated band. Great post, Kevin!
