Oh wow, I can't believe you got to interview her! I got to discover her thanks to your (extremely thoughtful and just simply GREAT) recommendation, and I'm obsessed not just with her voice, but what she can do with it. It was very interesting to learn more about her process and I can tell she's not just brilliant but also incredibly smart. Plus, Aretha's tribute to Dinah (that "Unforgettable" record she said she'd be holding if you were to catch her outside the record store) is one of my absolute favourites. I can't wait to listen to her record in full! Thanks again!
The concept got my attention, but the process behind it- and backstory on why she chose the songs she did-- is what I found most interesting. And while soul music isn't usually in my wheelhouse, it's pretty safe to say I was blown away by her voice.
Totally see what you mean. Besides, I think it's testament to how good and versatile the original songs are. In the right hands, as is the case here, they can clearly transcend categories, genres and, well, yes, genders! 😄
I think the first time I came across Morgan James was when she covered Aerosmith’s “Dream On” with Postmodern Jukebox, an absolutely brilliant rendition. I’ve not followed her work, though, and so I’m really looking forward to digging into this album this weekend.
There's a lot of goodness on this album, and on everything she's done, tbh. The rabbit hole is deep. Her husband, Doug, was heavily involved as well. He's an excellent jazz guitarist, and wound up doing the guitar and bass on this one. You can see and hear him in most of her non-PMJ videos.
Wow! I hadn’t heard of her before, but listening now! Just heard Plush and that was fantastic!! I don’t pay for Spotify, so it’s shuffling in songs from other albums - her version of Don’t Dream it’s Over was pretty fantastic (not from the new album). I may have to get a copy of this in vinyl!
Well done, Kevin! Thank you for the great interview. Can't wait to listen to this album. I've already heard a couple of tracks because I have her as a favorite on Spotify.

Here’s the video for Dream On: https://youtu.be/Yq4KA0mUnC8
Definitely worth five minutes of your time.
The first time I heard her was on Postmodern Jukebox's cover of All About That Bass with Haley Reinhart, Ariana Savalas, and Casey Abrams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLnZ1NQm2uk&ab_channel=PostmodernJukebox.

Thanks for this! I've now got the album in my cue to listen to!
Great interview with a great artist!
Fun read. I will check her out!
