Good morning!
Today we’re listening to Lilly Hiatt’s “Trinity Lane”
After high school, I spent a lot of time going on road trips to nowhere. Part of that was down to reading things “Blue Highways,” having no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up (still don’t, BTW), and wondering what else was out there waiting, just over the horizon.
Listening to John Hiatt at least once a day was also a mandate (and AM radio too, but that’s a story for another day). Something about his songs and the way they portray the lives of others—or even his— is just… relatable.
I heard “Trinity Lane” before I knew who sang it. It feels like a song made for a road trip. Looking back, I should’ve known it was from the same family.
Gonna hang on a little bit longer
Sleep well, work a little harder
Put my faith in somethin' I can't see
Crack a window when it rains
This is livin' off of Trinity Lane
It's workin' all right for me
More:
In the title track, a knowing, briskly tuneful post-punk number, she plays out an internal debate over how to fill the emotional void without giving in to destructive habits.

I relate to that entire paragraph so much. 👆🏻
Is the link text for The Sample a reference to Bob Marley?
Fun song, by the way.
