Note: For this year’s project, I’ve taken on the challenge of reviewing 100 new (to me) records. These 3 are the latest in that series. Have a record you think I should hear? Hit reply, or leave a comment!
The Linda Lindas- “Growing Up”
It’d be easy to dismiss The Linda Lindas.
The quartet aren’t even out of high school yet. Heck some of them haven’t even started high school yet. If you heard Growing Up was produced by the industry vet Carlos de la Garza, who just happens to be the father of two of the band members, you might be excused for not giving this a listen.
Young kids… produced by the dad… It’d be easy for you to do.
But you’d be making a mistake.
You may remember The Linda Lindas going viral with their video for “Racist, Sexist Boy,” which was unfortunately based on real life events.
Shot in a local library, it became a shot heard round the world. Eloise Wong's vocals drip with fury. She’s not asking for sympathy; she's making a statement. That track rounds out their new record, but to get to it you first get to ride through 9 other fantastic tracks.
The Linda Lindas might've gone viral for playing 1 song, but they’re definitely not 1 hit wonders.
