Good Morning!
Today we’re lsitening to “We Love You” by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
For a lot of GenXers, OMD’s “If You Leave” was the soundtrack to awkward moments at school dances or similar (No? Just me? Okay, then…).
Musically, we were pushing boundaries as far as we could. At one Virgin meeting, the head of A&R asked us, 'Come on guys, are you [Karlheinz] Stockhausen or ABBA?' Andy and I said together, 'Can't we be both?'"
~Paul Humphreys
By the time the song became a hit as part of the “Pretty In Pink” soundtrack, the band already had 6 full-length records under their belts. Their 7th, The Pacific Age, took a much poppier direction than their previous work had.
The result is a record that a lot of fans weren’t sure what to do with. Critics weren’t crazy about it either—both of which added up to a quick trip to the cut-out bins for the album.
But had they taken a little extra time to check it out, they would’ve found ear candy like this.
More:
The last two cuts on the album may be its very best, starting with the propulsive dance-rock of “We Love You,” which has a chorus that is so perfect yet so simple that you can’t help but wonder how no one ever thought of it before (why the single failed to follow “(Forever) Live and Die” into the American Top 40 is rather puzzling)

I really did not know this song. Vienna, that's OMD for me. But, another delightful piece of ear candy. Thanks.
I loved OMD, and esp the the OMDers. (chicks) We used "maneuvers in the dark" as a lame (we thought witty) euphemistic pick-up line. I'm sure your imagination can hear how cheesy they were!
You tease out the weirdest and coolest memories I would not have even remembered without you rattling the cage.
