Excellent work with the year-end list, Kevin! I haven't looked at many of the main lists, as I want to have mine uninfluenced by outside sources, but I want to compliment you on providing artists that I haven't heard of. Thank you for providing me with new stuff to peruse like Expert Timing, instead of celebrating billionaires like every other outlet (hint, hint... talking Beyonce).

I sure hope you aren't referring to It's Blitz when saying the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released a few mediocre albums, as it's easily their best record IMO. Now that I think about it, though, if you combine that amazing record with the flaming front porch paper bag that was Mosquito, you may have one mediocre album!

Thank you! I really appreciate that-especially coming from you. You might want to skip next week's 6-part deep dive on "Cuff it." :)

Seriously though, I didn't want to write the same "best of" everyone else had. What's the fun in that? I'm happy people appreciated that!

P.S. Yes, Mosquito. Probably shoulda worded that better.

Love that you have Young Gun Silver Fox and Brothertiger on your list. as an unabashed yacht rock fan, YGSF, when I heard their 2018 album, was maybe my most played album that year. I was also a huge fan of AM, the earlier iteration of the band. And Brothertiger was a new discovery for me this year so hearing that there are four previous albums for me to catch up on is a great birthday present! (My birthday is Monday, not that I'm fishing for recognition!;))

I loved Am Waves, but West End Coast was my onramp to the band, and is still my favorite. I still feel really fortunate that I was able to talk to/interview them earlier this year!

Brothertiger's records are going to prove to be the birthday present you didn't know you needed. I think you're in for a good time. And happy (early) birthday!

If I could find some time away from writing about music I might get around to listening to some again, and these 'end of year lists' are now doing nothing but feed my frustration!

Only kidding, a great '22 rundown, as expected, and I have made a firm list of 'never heard' bands I WILL get around to, sometime soon (with Artsick, Patches, Dendrons, The Loyal Seas, and Dot Dash at the front of it).

PS. I've finalised my own Top 20 '22 Albums list (in a reverse order!) but won't get a chance to finish writing/posting it until the '12 Mavericks' and next Chapter of challenge69.substack.com are out of the way.

Hopefully it'll make it out before we 'start all over again' in '23!

Tim
