Good Morning!
Today we’re listening to Soccer Mommy’s “Shotgun.”
The other day I commented on the What’s Curation? newsletter that I’m a sucker for dream pop.
And it’s true. A large part of my music taste-and collection- leans toward the sort of swirling/woozy sounds of artists like Soccer Mommy.
The project is the brainchild of Sophie Allison, and “Shotgun” is the lead single off her “Sometimes, Forever” record, set to be released in June.
Her new album Sometimes, Forever is her first to be produced by Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin, whose mastery of multitrack sound sculpture appears to have influenced the first single’s arrangement; Allison’s tones are still distinct, but where once there was air in the mix, there’s now density, clean guitars made rougher and more tightly wound with each new layer stacked atop one another.
