Good morning!
Today we’re turning the spotlight on the community, and all of the wonderful work you’re doing.
Last fall as this project turned 2, I noted that one of my stated goals was to spotlight more of the great work many of you are doing.
A lot of you are doing a lot of cool shit, and it’s long past time to highlight some of that. We’ve got several authors, several musicians, a couple of record label owners, artists, at least two radio hosts, podcasters, and more. Need a graphic designer? A ghostwriter? How about someone you can trust with your pets? We got those, too. On both coasts.
Today, on retails’s high holy day, is the perfect time to do just that.
By my count, we have at least:
7 published authors
4 musicians actively recording/performing
3 podcasters
2 (3?) radio hosts/DJs
2 professors
2 music label owners
Editors, freelancers, digital marketers, etc.
Some of you check more than one of those boxes.
And I know I’m forgetting people.
Bottom line: Everyday I learn about something new/amazing someone here is creating. Some music-related, a lot of it not. I want to do what I can to help surface that work and get it in front of more people.
So here’s my ask: If you have a project outside of Substack you want people to know about, please share it here. Don’t be shy, and make sure to include how people can place an order, buy a copy, or otherwise support your work.
For anyone who would like to give a paid subscription to On Repeat as a gift, you can do that here. If you would like to donate one to someone in the community, you can do that as well by simply clicking here.
Like last year, this is a great way to get some killer gifts for yourself and/or the people in your life while directly supporting friends of On Repeat and small businesses. It's a win-win!
And really, isn't that (and less people-y!) better than whatever this is?
Thanks for being here,
Kevin—
I really appreciate your focus on creating community, Kevin. Thank you for this invitation.
I just released a truly indie/DIY album on vinyl while also being a dad, working full time, and loving up our rescue pets. It took two years! 🤣 I'm proud of it...sounds great, looks beautiful, and it's gaining an audience bigger than I could've imagined. There are a few copies left. If you dig vinyl and/or want to give the gift of vinyl, feel free to check it out or contact me. https://thesizzos.bandcamp.com/album/glitter-in-gravel
I would suggest to support independent musicians on Substack by buying their music. Most have links to their Bandcamp pages and physical media options. There are many to be found here, and pretty much all across Bandcamp.
I wrote about several of them recently on Earworms and Song Loops but here’s a couple direct links:
