The 2024 On Repeat Records Holiday Gift Guide- Call for Submissions
Are you or a friend making something cool? Tell us about it!
Good morning!
Today we’re again turning the spotlight on the community, and all of the wonderful work you’re doing.
As many of you have read, one of my stated goals of this project is to spotlight more of the great work many of you are doing.
A lot of you are doing a lot of cool shit, and it’s long past time to highlight some of that. We’ve got several authors, several musicians, a couple of record label owners, artists, at least two radio hosts, podcasters, and more. Need a graphic designer? A ghostwriter? How about someone you can trust with your pets? We got those, too. On both coasts.
Cool people doing cool things. By any objective measure, this community is teeming with people that fit that description.
Using last year’s count, we have at least:
7 published authors
4 musicians actively recording/performing
3 podcasters
2 (3?) radio hosts/DJs
2 professors
2 music label owners
Editors, freelancers, digital marketers, etc.
Some of you check more than one of those boxes.
And I know I’m forgetting people.
Bottom line: Everyday I learn about something new/amazing someone here is creating. Some music-related, a lot of it not. I want to do what I can to help surface that work and get it in front of more people.
So here’s my ask: If you have a project outside of Substack you want people to know about, please reply directly to me by November 20th and tell me about it. Don’t be shy, and make sure to include how people can place an order, buy a copy, or otherwise support your work. Please feel free to share this with your own circle as well.
You can DM me, reply directly to this email, or send a separate one to kevin@onrepeatrecords.net. Whatever’s easiest for you works best for me!
For anyone who would like to give a paid subscription to On Repeat as a gift, you can do that here. If you would like to donate one to someone in the community, you can do that as well by simply clicking here. And of course, if you’d like to support this project by upgrading your own subscription, now’s a great time to do so!
I will include everyone’s answers in this year’s Gift Guide on Black Friday (November 29th).
Like last year, this is a great way to get some killer gifts for yourself and/or the people in your life while directly supporting friends of On Repeat and small businesses. It's a win-win!
And really, isn't that better than whatever TF this is?
Thanks for being here,
Kevin—
Hi Kevin! A big-up for your generosity of spirit, great taste and a creative community! I have 7 albums on Spotify and most streaming platforms. The latest is 'Woke Up This Morning' (geddit?). Roger Daltrey recorded four of my songs in the mid-80s, with me on keyboards. The biggest one on Youtube is' Bitter And Twisted' with over 300k plays (although some say they prefer my original, on my 'Fresh Blood' album). I'm on Bandcamp too. steveswindells.band.com :-)
I have a blog that I write every Monday. Since January 1, 2023, I have been listening to our vinyl collection and listening to every record alphabetically. I have skipped some where there is a crossover or best of albums that I don't need to hear because I have already listened to all of that artist's albums. This week, I am listening to the letter K, as in King Crimson. When I have finished the 12" slabs of vinyl, I will do the same thing with our CDs. It's been good to revisit some old records I haven't heard in a while and rediscover some of the newer releases that need another listen. We have over 4000 records/CDs/cassettes for anyone wanting to know ( Norman shamelessly boasts). I also stream review new releases that music publishers send to me for my opinion. When I do end-of-year tallying, I get about 600 full-length albums I have listened to front to back and several thousand singles/videos.
