Yesterday, I picked up a clean original (1974) copy of Fred & The New JB's 'Breakin' Bread' LP for $7. Beautiful weather, I was on my bike riding home from work and made a detour to a local shop that always has some decent finds. I found others, but I was good and kept it to just this one.

I've enjoyed reading your column for several months now. This one pulled me in like a moth to the flame though. The groups and albums you discuss totally resonated with me: The Police, The Pretenders, REM, Simple Minds. These were pre college, college, and post college music and bands which I loved. You Got Me Today!! As far as the song Black by Pearl Jam, I hear ya. The line in the song which goes something like, I know some day you'll have a beautiful life/I know you'll be a star/in someone else's sky, brings me back in my mind to an old girlfriend from my Washington DC days.
