Went on a mini SY binge the other day after seeing it was Kim Gordon's birthday. I keep seeing raves for Orville Peck, and I need to see what I've been missing!
In Between Days is one of my faves by the band. Pia Fraus are brand new to me; I found them by chance early last week, and have been listening to everything I can find ever since.
Rob Grill rules! Good call, Stygi! One of my fave lead singers who gets no love! My fave GR song was '69's "Lovin' Things," my second favorite Marmalade song, who originally recorded it the year before.
My favorite Marmalade track (that I just listened to, hitting the topic just under the wire!) was their '68 follow-up to "Lovin' Things," "Wait For Me Mary-Anne." Another unsung, largely unnoticed lead singer, Dean Ford!
True story: I work with a guy that's a dead ringer for James Murphy. Nicest guy on the flightline, but it's uncanny. This might be of interest as well?
Listening to Sharon Van Etten's new album, We've Been Going About This All Wrong, and I'm obsessed. I feel like I'm reliving parts of my pandemic experience while I'm listening--recalls experiences still quite tender, other songs elicit feelings of solidarity. Would definitely recommend.
Pleasantly surprised with the new Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever after feeling like their second album was a retread of their first. Some wicked guitar work and hooks throughout!
i click on the 3-dot elipse next to the download arrow and then click "song radio" to create a whole new playlist based on that song. It really helps me get off track from just straight-up repeats of liked songs. Spotify is the best music platform I've used. I know it sucks for artists, but look at journalists - they got screwed too.
actually, it was. i click on your links, like Delta Spirit (now a favorite) and then click the song radio. never woulda found some cool jams without you bro!
I wouldn't say it's the most impressive collection. Maybe 100 or so? I'm about half way through. But I'm taking a break from paying for streaming this year so it will likely grow!
I’ve been in need of tranquility lately and started listening to classical music, namely Gymnopedia No. 1 from Erik Satie. My trusty Pandora station has spit out Bach, Debussy, and Prokofiev.
Right on! I'm glad you enjoyed it! That's a fantastic list; you got me early with "Red eyes." I'd also never heard that cover of "This Must Be The Place."
I just re-dug-up this the other day, having stumbled upon it originally about 3 yrs ago! Any of the kids these days listening to Roosevelt? This 4-song in-studio radio thing was what turned me on!
For being a band in their 30s (if that), they're incredibly tuneful, and, while somewhat electronic, not at all drowning in droning.....a definite feel for the classic pop songwriting form! Elect Roosevelt:
My daughter asked me to make her a playlist of goth music that she could listen to while she plays DnD. I've never really under stood what make a band goth. Is it gloom? Is it makeup? I made her a list of what I think goth should be. She loves it.
Hi Kevin. Sorry, I didn't see this until 45 days later. My internet usage outside of Twitter is lacking. I spend a lot of time traveling with my camper. I did play the show at the 331. I think everyone liked it except me😂.
I have a date playing a block party in NE Mpls on the 16th of this month. I will make sure that I get your the details. It should be a fun day. I am setting up on someone's porch and will be playing at various times throughout the day. Rude Girl is playing and I always love to see them.
I'm a sucker for pop punk and maybe that's the reason why the latest STAND ATLANTIC album called f.e.a.r. has been playing non-stop on my phone. Summer is in full swing here in Lisbon and this album is perfect for the weather ☀️
Currently rocking out to a rock cover by "The Derek Trucks Band" of the Sufi track "Sahib Teri Bandi"

Some great tracks on there. Good to see another Modern Lovers fan!
Heavy on Sonic Youth, Pink Floyd and Orville Peck over here!
LOVE that new Orville Peck record!
Isn't it fabulous!!!

For the past few weeks I've been listening to The Grass Roots a lot - https://open.spotify.com/album/5BEc0f6FK1xSjGVpBrvHGm?si=obRhPloKSsiUNmbcRzEsFA Especially the main "Let's Live For Today" song that was used in an intro of the 'Pachinko' series on Apple TV+ that I highly recommend to watch!
Great playlist btw 👏 I love 'In Between Days' by The Cure so much - it was great to hear it ✨ & I really enjoyed 'Japanese Heart Software'

My pleasure, Stygi! Enjoy!
What I'm listening to right now...an upload of Elvis Costello covering Dylan at a concert this weekend in Tulsa:

He sounds as good as ever!
Bingeing on LCD Soundsystem over here. For a band that's basically a dance group, they are profoundly unpredictable. I could listen to the guitar on "All I Want" forever. Here's a playlist- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0tNDbuzT2vQVfIXVq843ZI?si=_4_GXHalSuife972a0sUDA&utm_source=copy-link

This is a great record! I really dug "Fortune Bay."
The Juliana Theory has a new EP out, and this track "Less Talk" is pretty great. https://songwhip.com/the-juliana-theory/less-talk
Oh man, there’s a name that takes ya back! I had no idea they had something new. I’ll definitely be digging into that one!
Definitely check it out! It's really great!
Same here!
Relatively recent self-titled album by Satellites. Fitting right in with the Anatolian rock revival of Altin Gün & Group Simsek: https://open.spotify.com/album/7olTOjGQOUzJxugpToyPMK?si=sCJEbOg6SZ-3tvDFjaF2PQ
Getting ready to cue this up shortly! I really liked the little I've heard of Altin Gun, and wrote about them last year on Medium.

Clicked in a random spot, and landed on The Intruders' "I'll Always Love My Mama." Fantastic!
Jamming on that new Spoon, thanks to your rec!
The new Spoon album is 🔥🔥🔥
Yes! I'm glad you're enjoying it!

I'm ready for this. "Sideways..." was...okay.
Totally agree. New one is leaps and bounds better. Enjoy!

I've started re-listening to "Songs About Jane" after having a discussion with some friends about old Maroon 5 stuff! Really love "harder to breathe!"
Right on. I'm not sure I know much of their stuff other than "Sugar?"
Their best stuff is their early stuff. Def. Recommend you go back and look at "She will be loved"
Working alphabetically through my record collection right now. Currently in "N" listening to the National's Trouble Will Find Me.
Oh wow! Any idea how many records you've made it through/ how many more to go?
