One of my all-time faves! Now that they're on the road, it's been great seeing them pop up on my IG feed.

I've been exploring Lou Reed's "Words and Music: May 1965" that came out this week. It's a fascinating set of demos that include the earliest known versions of "Heroin," "Pale Blue Eyes," and "I'm Waiting for the Man." To hear those songs in a folk acoustic style, still unfinished, perfectly encapsulates what a weird week/month this has been.

I don’t usually go to the Rickie Lee Jones vault, but when I do, it always includes “Living it Up”. Lovely!

My kids got me into Noah Kahan’s new song “Stick Season”. It’s excellent.

That's my favorite song off of "Pirates." Interestingly (or not) I wound up finding a copy of it while crate digging the other day. Only $2. Not bad!

I have a few playlists currently on heavy rotation that help me get through the day mainly Simply Red and Sade Greatest Hits.

But recently I've been getting back into djing (when work and parenting allows it), and have downloaded and listened to a ton of techy and housey beats, a few here for you if you care to research and listen to them:

The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the Casual

DJOKO - Be Real

Modula & Thanksmate - Behind the Shapes

Liquid Earth - Spooky Snorkel

Barac - I Shall Not Be Shaken

Laidlaw, Le Louche - Ah Ha

Enzo Siragusa - Nothing Matters

Manipulate - The Beat Club

Nice! We used to listen to his a LOT when it came out. Lots of trips up/down I-5 with it blaring. "Saving Grace" is still one of my favorite songs.

Your playlist looks eerily similar to my own! I think perhaps we've been reading the same music substacks for influence! I would like to think I had something to do with the Mary's Danish track. I myself played their first album There Goes the Wondertruck last week, so that maybe doesn't count, but really, who decided a week meant 7 days? How limiting.

I just drove 7 hours to my folks' house yesterday and played one of my all-time favorite albums, Pinback' Autumn of the Seraphs, as well as two episodes of the podcast "Wind of Change" (thanks for the recommendation), and Built To Spill's Keep It Like a Secret.

Mary's Danish is an old favorite of mine. I definitely saw them mentioned somewhere (maybe from you on Medium??), and it nudged me to play them again after quite awhile.

That podcast is really addictive, isn't it?

Porridge Radio for me this week, a new band from Brighton. I listened to both their debut album 'Every Bad' and this year's follow-up 'Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder to the Sky' several times each in prep for going to see them in Sheffield. Dana Margolin is a brilliant songwriter/lyricist (albeit one with a penchant for repetition), and an extraordinarily engaging frontperson live.

If you've not heard PR, I'd recommend 'Back to the Radio' as a great starting point, it's high up on my list of contenders for song of the year ...
