Happy Monday, and welcome to each of you who joined us over the weekend! It’s great to have you here with us.
With Halloween coming tomorrow, I thought it would be fun to mix things up & share a list of songs for the holiday. I first made this a couple of years ago, remade it again last year, and have tweaked it a few times since.
Did I miss anything? What tracks should be on here? Comment below, and I’ll add ‘em!
As always, feel free to share any non-Halloween tracks you’ve been listening to this week!
Off topic, but I just heard this song from Robert Jon & The Wreck a week ago; & it's so good I wanna open for them when they hit Cleveland in early December.
Great playlist and just in time. Perhaps add Shiny Happy People (aka Furry Happy Monsters) by Muppet Rockers & REM?
This week I was in love with 'Bauhaus Staircase', the latest from OMD and their best album since Dazzle Ships. Might even be an AOTY?!
Meanwhile given the events in the world I once again took out my old anti-war mixtapes. Billy Bragg to Black Flag, Disposable Heroes of Hiphopracy to The Clash and Bikini Kill to Le Tigre, etc.
I've been meaning to check out the new O.M.D., but haven't quite made it there yet. I'm happy to hear it's good!
DIsposable Heroes! Growing up, a friend & I both wanted to be the next Rono Tse. The stuff he was using for/doing with percussion was wild. I wrote that record up awhile ago. As a society, we weren't ready for it.
Not spooky, but I saw Lauryn Hill and Bob Dylan back-to-back on Thursday and Friday, so in preparation, I listened to the "The Score," "Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," then "Rough and Rowdy Ways" and "Time Out of Mind."
Not Halloween related but in a similar (no pun intended) vein: “If We Were Vampires” is my Halloween theme song, and a theme for the other 364 days of the year, too.
Wish I would have gotten to this yesterday, but Hillbilly Moon Explosion (with Sparky): "My Love for Evermore" is a gorgeous, chilling classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rlYPb2plaY
I know this is late, as Halloween has now been and gone, but Danse Macabre by Duran Duran is as good as anything from their 1981 - 1985 golden era. A really cool Halloween-infused new single :)
Right on! Thank you for sharing it here.
Added!
Every breath you take - The Police
So good. And works both for Halloween and normal days. :)
Appropriately enough, I was just listening to the metal band Death.
Fun playlist! Glad to see the Misfits creeping out of their punk graves.
Lol. Right? If not now, when?
Siouxsie and the Banshees, Spellbound.
Iron Maiden, Phantom of the Opera or Murders in the Rue Morgue or Dance of Death.
Time Warp..
Berlin, Masquerade.
Yes!
I'm listening to Volares CARRION CRY. Properly spooky for the season.

Happy Monday! I Put a Spell on You, the Hocus Pocus version, is my ultimate Halloween theme song, hands down 🤣 Never fails!
Great playlist and just in time. Perhaps add Shiny Happy People (aka Furry Happy Monsters) by Muppet Rockers & REM?

Disposable Heroes were like a comet that never comes back. Lived in Bay area in late eighties so saw them live a bunch. Glad you've checked them out.

The only way that’s scary is as in “scary good.”
Excellent Halloween playlist! Couple of other suggestions:
"Ghost Riders in the Sky"-The Outlaws
"Creeping Death"-Metallica
"All My Friends Are Dead"-Turbonegro
"Welcome to my Nightmare"-Alice Cooper
"Devil Woman"-Cliff Richard
"Bonin' in the Boneyard"-Fishbone
"Black Sabbath"-Black Sabbath
Added! Good call on Metallica. I had to add "Trapped Under Ice" as well. Seemed appropriate.
Yeah! Great spooky playlist.
GOBLIN!!!
Suspiria is amazing, but I love it all.

70s Italian horror soundtracks are where it's at.
Yes!
You could include any of the spidery songs I included in my spider playlist (and post)!
https://earworm.substack.com/p/bonus-playlist-arachno-musica
But if I had to limit it to just one, I'd choose Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes."
Added, & thank you for the article/playlist link!
Screamin' Jay Hawkins' back catalogue is made for this, particularly "I Put A Spell On You" and "Little Demon".
It really is his time to shine, isn;t it?
“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” Soundtrack - Vince Guaraldi. if you need some kid friendly tunes 🤣
It's on there now! One of my favorites.
Halloween tracks | Ghost Rider - The Rollins Band and Dead Souls - Nine Inch Nails (cover of Joy Division track) both found on The Crow soundtrack
Non Halloween | Goodbye California - Jolie Holland
That soundtrack is fantastic! I normally turn my nose up at any Joy Division/New Order covers, but I've always thought this one was done really well.
Excellent list :) Love that Golden Earring made the cut :) One to add from Detroit's Heavy Metal Horror Show - HALLOWEEN!! - https://open.spotify.com/track/7koyE6qZglnCN3cfjSpqQ1?si=0857358fcaa44400
Thank you! Good to see more of tghe midwest represented on the list.
Great playlist! My oddball picks:
- Halloween by Wussy
- Dig My Grave by TMBG
- The Witch by The Primitives
- Re: Your Brains by Jonathan Coulton
- Wolfman Can't Come by The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band
...and all of Duran Duran's Danse Macabre? 🤘💀🤘
These are awesome adds Thank you!
Friend introduced me to the latest queer country song that has conservatives big mad: Tyler Childers' "In Your Love"
Let 'em stay mad; it's a great track!
this is a solid playlist and very similar to my ever growing Party Monsters playlist! some really fun ones to add would be -
Creatures of the Night (Live 1992) by KISS
vampire by olivia rodrigo
cry little sister (theme from 'the lost boys') by Gerard McCann
Halloween Parade by Lou Reed
Paranoid by Black Sabbath
and one of my personal underrated faves - The Witch Queen of New Orleans by Redbone

These are great! Added 'em all.
Not Halloween related but in a similar (no pun intended) vein: “If We Were Vampires” is my Halloween theme song, and a theme for the other 364 days of the year, too.
It's terrifyingly good.
Awesome playlist, Kevin! I wouldn't change a thing on it. And I was very happy to discover that you included completely different songs on your spooky playlist, than I have on mine https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1bJ1gHtqcv731X8bby0gv7?si=9cf1d32c30cd4ef0 Happy Halloween 🎃👻🕯️
'Be True To Your Ghoul' from your playlist made my morning 🫶 thanks!
Of course! :)
Your list is awesome! Lots of great stuff I hadn't thought of! Thanks for sharing it here.
Wish I would have gotten to this yesterday, but Hillbilly Moon Explosion (with Sparky): "My Love for Evermore" is a gorgeous, chilling classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rlYPb2plaY
You're just in time!
I Put A Spell On You -‘ Crazy World Of Arthur Brown’
anything from ’Spooky Tooth’
I know this is late, as Halloween has now been and gone, but Danse Macabre by Duran Duran is as good as anything from their 1981 - 1985 golden era. A really cool Halloween-infused new single :)
Never too late!
