King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard - Flight b741. Prior to album launch, I listened to all 8 hours and 33 minutes of their Red Rocks 2022 shows as a warm up. Amazing 26th studio album by this group. Already working on the next one, which is lining up to complement b741.
Thee Oh Sees - SORCS 80. New KGLW and TOS on the same day? My ears can only handle so much! I’m digging this record way more than Intercepted Message from last year. Synths!!!
Bill Callahan - Resuscitate! Live Bill is great, want to actually catch this live at some point.
Kal Marks - Wasteland Baby single Insects. This led to listening to more Kal Marks, which is never a bad thing.

Wand - Vertigo + Cory Hanson - The Unborn Capitalist + Pale Horse Rider + Western Cum. With the new Wand record bouncing around my head, revisiting Cory’s solo output. Supremely mellow and good rides.
Jack White - No Name. I’m a sucker for this record. It slaps + bangs.
Old hat:
Spoon - They Want My Soul. Read somewhere this record turned 10. Turned into a Spoon-a-thon all up in my ears for several hours, no complaints.
Cory Hanson - The Unborn Capitalist + Pale Horse Rider + Western Cum. With the new Wand record bouncing around my head, revisiting Cory’s solo output. Supremely mellow and good rides.
Radiohead - In Rainbows thru OK Computer. Started by accident, ended up working through these records backwards (just the albums, not tracks). Also listened at higher volume than normal play through. Radiohead has to mean Ear Wizard in some alien language.
Sluts of Trust - We Are All Sluts of Trust EP. I know this won’t end up many people’s fav records of all time list, but it’s tippy-top for me. Great sounding record
I'm with you on the new Jack White - surprised how much I am enjoying. Super catchy hooks alongside a record that just rocks. Also thrilled that there's new Osees, and you're reminding me again to spend time with the new Wand.
Great to see The Asteroid No. 4 and Robber Robber on there. Really enjoying those. And funny that waxahatchee didn't quite hit me as strongly as lots of other folks when it came out, but it is really taking hold this summer. For me, given our new post (https://3albums6oldguys.substack.com/p/ogs-on-the-road-a-zevon-campaign), I've been really enjoying the new Claire Ozmun (https://claireozmun.bandcamp.com/album/dying-in-the-wool), spinning a lot of Sour Widows, and spending a lot of time in the Walz-induced Warren Zevon world that my fellow writer Brian covered in depth.
PS if it's any consolation to Mr Zevon, the RR Hall of Fame is even less of a credible mark of importance than the Grammys, and that's saying something. ;-) Its just more Jann Wenner narcisissm that somehow got taken seriously.
Have also been immersed in some UK underground rap. Kid Acne released a remix record of his excellent late 2023 album Hauntology Codes (https://kidacne.bandcamp.com/album/hauntology-codes). I have had Track 5, Discordian Duplexxx, "on repeat." And then South Asian MC Sonnyjim released his new "Thugs from Amritsar" in July, which has some incredible samples and beats, and even a feature from Heems (https://sonnyjim.bandcamp.com/album/thugs-from-amritsar)
Also there was a show with Nick Cave on it. It made me think of a certain Stephen Knight show where there is a powerful cover of RED RIGHT HAND. [the show is PEAKY BLINDERS which I watched around 6 months ago now].

I’m not familiar with anything on the playlist this week. I’m getting on a plane later so I’ve downloaded it to listen to on the flight.
Rilo Kiley has randomly come up a few times in the last couple of weeks so I’ve been listening to The Execution of All Things. This is another band that fell into the “up to my eyes in child-rearing hole” so I’d never actually heard of them before. This album is incredible. I’m very happy to have found it.
I read Crying at H Mart last week so I’ve also been catching up with the Japanese Breakfast back catalogue. I’d only spent time with Jubilee up to now but I’m enjoying the first two records and appreciate the extra resonance that having read the book gives them.
Finally, the Spotify algorithm threw up Post Sex Nachos for me this week so I’m having a listen to the latest album, Prima/Vera. I like it. In places it reminds me of Circa Waves but in other parts it is much more unashamed pop. It’s a lot of fun.
I hope you had a great flight! Psychopomp and Soft Sounds From Another Planet are killer records. For absolutely no reason, "Diving Woman" reminds me of my pre-dawn commute in the dead of winter. She also had a side project called Bumper, releasing a pretty cool EP during the pandemic.
OMG - going on right now is a local music/comedy/film festival- and guess who is playing two sets in two different venues?? Yes, the Post Sex Nachos!! I’m going to try to make it to one of them!
My week was more low-key in terms of listening than usual as I had a busy week with my music. The things I listened to the most were:
* Peter Case - Last week, I mentioned the great documentary about him and this week, I spent a lot of time with his first three solo records. He was ahead of the times in terms of writing smart songs that foreshadowed the Adult Alternative and bigger-tent Americana markets that developed in the late 90s and beyond. I dig all of his records, but those first three solo records (self-titled, The Man With The Blue..., Six Pack of Love) are special -- check 'em out!
* Bremer/McCoy - Forsvinder - Described as "meditative dub/jazz" including bass, Wurlitzer, and tape-delays (not the 1975 NBA playoff game type), it's a great record for winding down at night. I can't remember how I found it -- maybe someone here mentioned it?
* Dylan - a handful of favorite songs. How is it possible to have listened to a song for 40 years and yet you still learn something almost every time you play it? I used to freak out a born-again friend with the absurd joke that Bob was the second coming of Jesus, but then you listen to some early classics and it doesn't seem like the worst idea...

Not long, no - this is a really new playlist for me. I played bass in my bands and kind of "think in bass", if that makes sense. It's possible you and Lou discussed this, though - he commented here on this thread about bass-centric playlists.
I'm not done with my listening to it as there's much to appreciate, just wasn't in the correct headspace for that or the new Fucked Up. Perhaps my listing Ryuichi as a favorite this past week gave that away.
Hi all! I was in Hanover (Germany) over the weekend and I grabbed original European pressings of U2’s “The Joshua Tree” and a-ha’s “Hunting High and Low” in great condition for less than USD 25 (combined). Very cool street fair near the old town selling all sorts of antiques as well as old books and records. And the beer was to die for, of course 😎
Friday's Release Radar was met with a ton of excitement, because Cloud Cult and Twin Atlantic both released new albums. So those have both been big listens over the weekend and into today!

I spent the week in 80s The (English) Beat, UB40, General Public, Fine Young Cannibals. I played a 20 minute set of their songs at a local brewery’s vinyl night and then made this playlist that I’ve been listening to on repeat lol
I’ve really been enjoying the new Orville Peck album; I’d loved the EP earlier in the year and the additional tracks push it into top ten AOTY territory.
I’ve also been digging into the T. Graham Brown release “From Memphis to Muscle Shoals”. Some fantastic collaborations with some legendary performers.
Lastly, I’ve been spending a lot of time with three female artists that’ll certainly feature in my top 50 this year: Cassandra Jenkins, Bess Atwell and Loma (Emily Cross-fronted band).
Began listening to Madonna's first four albums. Only found time to listen to the first (I want to play each one through rather than piecemeal). It is amazing how much I had forgotten about her music, her voice, and her style. She was 24 years old when the first album was released. I was 23.
Also "It's Too Late" by The Jim Carroll Band and "Going Down" by Freddie King.
Most of my listening this week has been with two new albums -
X - Smoke & Fire (reportedly their last album, and it smokes! Great new music!)
Jack White - No Name - What an album! Jack finally recovered from the amnesia that his gripped him since ending the White Stripes. For my taste - this is his best solo recording.
Older music -
Japandroids - Celebration Rock - definitely worth checking out!
I was so happy to see Japandroids release a new single, and then, like, 10 minutes later was bummed to see it's part of their farewell record... Celebration Rock is awesome!
Many years ago, I saw The Asteroid #4 with LSD and the Search for God and The Quarter After (a side project of one of the members of Brian Jonestown). They played in a tiny basement bar off SE Grand and Ash St. in PDX. That venue has long since closed, but they had a lot of good shows. I remember A#4 struggled to fit on their tiny stage and had very little wiggle room!
And, while I'm at it, I did some art for this label and their A#4 release:
Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste. I had last listened to this band a year or so ago, with their debut album. Acquiring the Taste seems a bit safer than the debut, sort of like a lighter version of King Crimson or Foxtrot era Genesis. Overall it's decent but it doesn't really "wow" me.
Sawyer Fredericks - no particular release, just an introduction to his work. A friend of mine thinks my singing sounds like him, and I can sort of see it, more so with his older work.
Aurora's latest album was listened to again, in preparation to write some poetry inspired by the songs on it.
I'm really looking forward to the next couple of weeks of releases - Paris Paloma and Ellen Pieroni are dropping albums on the 30th (cacophony and Soul Vacation, respectively) and David Gilmour has an album dropping the week after that (Luck and Strange).
Lot's of Bangles and Sonic Youth over the last week for some reason...but aslo the latest Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She. A stunner of an album.

I’m always sad that Sluts of Trust released the one record and then peaced out. That therrr record is one of my happy places, and still sounds great.

I’ve really been enjoying the new Orville Peck album; I’d loved the EP earlier in the year and the additional tracks push it into top ten AOTY territory.
I’ve also been digging into the T. Graham Brown release “From Memphis to Muscle Shoals”. Some fantastic collaborations with some legendary performers.
Lastly, I’ve been spending a lot of time with three female artists that’ll certainly feature in my top 50 this year: Cassandra Jenkins, Bess Atwell and Loma (Emily Cross-fronted band).

Began listening to Madonna's first four albums. Only found time to listen to the first (I want to play each one through rather than piecemeal). It is amazing how much I had forgotten about her music, her voice, and her style. She was 24 years old when the first album was released. I was 23.
Also "It's Too Late" by The Jim Carroll Band and "Going Down" by Freddie King.
Was this sparked by last week's chat about her first few records?

X - Smoke & Fire (reportedly their last album, and it smokes! Great new music!)
Jack White - No Name - What an album! Jack finally recovered from the amnesia that his gripped him since ending the White Stripes. For my taste - this is his best solo recording.

I was so happy to see Japandroids release a new single, and then, like, 10 minutes later was bummed to see it's part of their farewell record... Celebration Rock is awesome!

I'm not too well versed in whatever genre Linkin Park is, but holy smokes is Points of Authority a killer track!
Many years ago, I saw The Asteroid #4 with LSD and the Search for God and The Quarter After (a side project of one of the members of Brian Jonestown). They played in a tiny basement bar off SE Grand and Ash St. in PDX. That venue has long since closed, but they had a lot of good shows. I remember A#4 struggled to fit on their tiny stage and had very little wiggle room!

New this week:
Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste. I had last listened to this band a year or so ago, with their debut album. Acquiring the Taste seems a bit safer than the debut, sort of like a lighter version of King Crimson or Foxtrot era Genesis. Overall it's decent but it doesn't really "wow" me.
Sawyer Fredericks - no particular release, just an introduction to his work. A friend of mine thinks my singing sounds like him, and I can sort of see it, more so with his older work.
Aurora's latest album was listened to again, in preparation to write some poetry inspired by the songs on it.
I'm really looking forward to the next couple of weeks of releases - Paris Paloma and Ellen Pieroni are dropping albums on the 30th (cacophony and Soul Vacation, respectively) and David Gilmour has an album dropping the week after that (Luck and Strange).
