Love Hall and Oates (can't find the symbol on my keyboard!). So I'm ashamed to admit that, beyond the recognizable cover art, I don't think I'm familiar with this record. I'm going to listen to see if anything jogs my memory. Thanks for this. It's exactly one of the great things about your newsletter. It often gives me ideas of not only what to listen to, but how to change/freshen up my listening!
This is great. I'm predominantly familiar with their 80s stuff (H2O is one of my favourite records by them) so it looks like I've got some homework to do!
I don't know if you are familiar with the Now Playing group on Facebook. If you aren't, people literally post pics of what they are listening to, either with or without commentary. Any time someone posts Abandoned Luncheonette, my brother will comment by shouting out his favorite song off the album. So with a tip of the hat to Theron...
An absolute classic!!!
"She's Gone" might be my favorite all-time Hall and Oates song. Here's something vintage fans might not have seen yet:

So glad you shared the video! One of the things I really love about H&O is their willingness to take risks and this video was one of them.
Not to mention: Live from Daryl's House! Dude just loves playing, and he's simply phenomenal.
Don't sleep on John. He's more under the radar but he's taken a really interesting turn in his solo career. I'm working on a piece about him.
Awesome! Feel free to tag me in a note or whatever when you publish. Happy to read!
Will do!
I'm looking forward to reading it! Please drop a link here when it's ready!
I'm really happy to see he's bringin the show back!
Me too. I haven't seen all his older episodes (nor even close), but I want these sessions recorded for posterity... and to inspire folks.

I'd also recommend checking out their album Beauty on a Backstreet. I wrote about it last week. https://songoftheday.substack.com/p/sunday-afternoon-listening-cafe-2
I never realized that She's Gone is on this record. I'm liking it.
Of course! I'm glad you're liking the record.
A classic - Purdie is also magnificent on 'She's Gone.'
Yes!
Sort of like the pre-disco Bee Gees.
That's a great analogy.
Great album from a time before they became MTV stars.
Las Vegas Turnaround maybe
I wrote about it and a number of other classics that came out in Nov/73 in my Friday Faves (at 50) I turned 14 in 1973.
Shameless promo for my post

Right on! Thanks for sharing the link.
Lady Rain is my fave off this album. Because of its folkiness it's not in my upper echelon of H&O albums but it is a great one.

H2O is such a fantastic album! Go Solo still slays me every time.
H2O is soo good. "Voices" is as well.

Lady Rain!
Ha! I hadn’t heard of it. Is this where I shout out “When The Morning Comes?”
It is now.
Absolutely hands down fav is "Had I Known You Better Then." Gorgeous.
