Huge fan of this album and Wussy more generally. The one-two punch of this and 2007's "Left for Dead" are among the highlights of the 2000s for me. Good call!
I've loved Chuck and Lisa's songwriting from the start. Adding Joe Klug on drums with Stawberry and John Erhardt on pedal steel with Attica! took them to whole new level. Losing John during the pandemic was a tragedy.
They were back in the studio last fall. I can't wait to hear more from them.
I really love Midwestern indie rock. Nice review.
I vaguely remember hearing about Wussy back in the day; will have to dig this album up.
Let me know what you think once you’ve had a chance to play it!

That’s a killer combo. “Mayflies” finds it’s way onto my playlists quite a bit.
Yea! Great pick!

They also kick butt live, and KEXP knows it:

New Order cover? Sure, why not

OK, I'll stop gushing now 😉
No, please keep going! These are awesome.
How did I not know the covered New Order?! This is a gift.
I'll try them again...Christgau ranking them so highly had me curious but it never stuck.
Seeing Christgau (almost) love everything band puts out is a million-to-one shot.
Yeah it was Xgau's praise that drew me in, and I think he's right - lots of very good Wussy albums!
“The yellow cotton dress is beautiful no doubt
But it becomes a motherfucker
When you fill it out
The pillow on your side is practically brand new
But it can’t offer comfort to me
Until it smells of you
You’re everywhere”
“This is Bob Dylan to me.”
Excellent analogy, "... if John Doe and Exene Cervenka were in couples therapy."
Thank you! I was hoping that would land with someone.
This is very cool, Kevin!
Thank you Michael!
