I’ve lost track of the amount of times I’ve quoted “This is a story you won’t tell the kids we’ll never have” to someone.
That being said, I was fortunate to see them a few times in their original run. Since reuniting, I’ve sadly been underwhelmed when seeing them live. I don’t know if it is all the shitty large LN venues that lost the intimate feel of seeing them at punk shows/venues with 200 friends singing every word back then or that their music was never meant to be heard by me in a “concert hall”.
Like you, I saw 'em in the original run and feel extremely lucky to be able to say "I was there." I have only seen the one show post-reunion, and I agree that they are a band best seen in a small venue. That said, think that first show back (outside of a couple of warm up gigs) was as magical as it was because it finally (!) closed the loop for the band--and us.
I think I've heard of Jawbreaker, but this was not what I expected... lol I thought they were more like Slipknot. They've got the 90s sound down -- surprised they weren't bigger!
I was struck by the fact that their album cover is very similar to The Tragically Hip's Road Apples:
Yes, this album is solid, and yeah, it was so silly that Jawbreaker got dragged into the holier-than-thou punk mud. I think it's noteworthy that I was introduced to this band via live music, and when I heard their new Bivouac record for the first time, I felt like I already knew several of the songs. That was a new experience for me in 93.
I'm glad for a chance to read this for the first time! I don't know my Jawbreaker lore. Do people understand that the Dear You blow back is a major reason the band broke up?

...which also has an inside joke, albeit in the title of the album.
Good song -- thanks for that, Kevin!
Of course! I'm glad you liked it.

So, so silly! The things that seemed to matter so much back then just feel absurd now.
And: things that seemed unimportant are kind of everything, right?
Yep!
“Sluttering” is such a powerful word 💪🏻😅
Right?!
