Happy Monday, and welcome to those of you that joined us over the weekend! It’s great to have you here. Below is a playlist featuring some of what I’ve had in heavy rotation.
Whatcha got? What have you been listening to? Who (or what) should all be checking out?
In fact, I saw her vinyl record at a flea market sale in Toronto, immediately downloaded the album on my phone and started listening. That made me realize I'd never listened to vinyl before, and that prompted the essay I wrote a few days ago. Do check it out if you haven't read it yet, Chris. You'll be intrigued, I'm sure.
GARAGE SALE??! BLASPHEMY! No, but it really is. The jump in writing from American Fool to Uh-Huh is noteworthy. Not the kind we'd see on Scarecrow, but a really impressive progression.
Was this a garage sale or an estate sale?! Who in their right mind would sell these classic gems? I'm glad the albums are now in good hands.
True story - any time I would see a Replacements album in a cut-out or bargain bin, I would buy the album. It was almost always Don't Tell A Soul. At one point, I had about six or seven copies between tape and CD.
Garage sale. Not sure why they were selling, but I'm glad I happened by! I've found a couple of other ones recently that I was surprised people were selling. Good for me, I suppose.
I can't imagine Don't tell A Soul being in the cut-out bin, but here we are. Society has no taste.
At this current moment, the Wet Leg album. Feels like they had so much buzz off that debut single last year, then it fizzled a bit when the full album came out. I wasn't enamored with it myself, but giving it another shot.
I was in the same boat; I really liked "Chaise Lounge," and "Ur Mum" reminded me of Lily Allen. The rest of it took a little time for me to warm up to.
Friday was the best release day in a while imo, so I’m rotating between the new Tony Molina album, the fantastic Panda Bear/Sonic Boom collabo, and Felipe Gordon for some excellent jazzy house music!
Sorry I love music but still listening to the same song I'm working on over and over! The life of a songwriter eh - It will be worth it I'm sure haha - next song is gonna be minimal phew :)
Hey Kevin, Just joined substack, just migrated my stuff over here, so I'm just learning my way around. You're the first author I've visited. Why? My thread is also about music. What am I listening to? Right now, bingeing Japanese hard rock bands, because a lot of them are incredible.
Enjoy! Band-Maid are doing a 16-date US tour in October (sold out since May, despite being completely ignored by the US music press) but tickets are available on the resale market.
Cool! I just randomly played the music in a couple of your posts. Some good, raw, old-school rock/punk vibes. Not sure if that's your usual jam, I guess I'll find out.
Tapestry by Carole King 🥰
Such a classic!

Oh, I should dig that one out! Have a favorite song on the record?
Home Again
Just watched the movie The Harder They Fall, and I can’t wait to run that soundtrack today!
I had to look this one up; that looks great! Going to cue it up later today.
Uh-huh by John Mellencamp
Found a copy at a garage sale recently. I'd forgotten how solid of record this is.

Agreed!
Not for nothing, we also picked up a copy of "Scarecrow" from the same sale.

Sparkly, spacey, pulsating with energy!
This is a new one for me! I like it!

I just found a band named Spectre Jones which is pretty great. Been listening to them a lot this weekend.

The Panda bear collab seems to be everywhere I turn over the last couple of days. The universe is trying to tell me something!
Lana del Rey's Born to Die and The Doors' LA Woman
LA Woman might be my favorite Doors song.
I have been jamming out to WWOZ New Orleans on a daily basis, always something new and interesting to hear there!
Oh nice! Streamable, I assume? I'll have to look when I get in to work.
Yes!

Nothing wrong with that. Please let us know when it's ready!
Spiral from Darkside, Colder Streams by Sadies, and Forever Overhead by Tim Baker are the three albums bouncing around in my head today.
I have "Tape V" by Daniel Spaleniak stuck on repeat. Dark & atmospheric vibes to contrast the weather ⚫️☀️

Right on and welcome! I think you'll really like the platform. Any bands in particular I should check out first?

In anticipation of their October US tour, I've been bingeing Band-Maid. Kick-ass all-girl hard rock band. "Onset" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVrN-j_Uc0U
