Nuts to what I'M listening to....I'm drawn into your playlist! Where do I begin? Gold Tides sound immediately intriguing. Little about them is on the 'net (you got me researching at 8am on a Monday?! Kevin, you're a witch!! I may give up coffee!), but I did notice they're from Santa Fe, a town I've visited and loved! I want to listen to their album, and if it sticks to my ears, I may do a piece on 'em!

Is it me, or does The Sound sound a bit Doors-y, if not the singer sounding Morrison-y? Even U2-y, especially the Edge-y guitar sound? Not a bad thing, just noticing.

Then, there's "I Want You Back." I completely ignored the Hoodoo Gurus in the '80s, but when "I Want You Back" popped up on what must've been a power pop compilation in the '90s....BOING! What a song! The urgency. The relentlessness! All with melody and harmonies. Amazing. Your inclusion of this song brings TWO possible articles to mind!

Thanks, Kevin! You did it again!🎼🎵🎶😎👍

I'm glad you liked it! I definitely hear hints of the Doors in there! A bit of Hippocampus too. It'll be on an EP that comes out at the end of October.

Hoodoo Gurus were a big hit in my music-nerd circle back in HS. I still love 'em.

P.S. Never give up coffee! :)

Nah, I'll never give up coffee...Panera's counting on me! I've already used "I Want You Back" as the anchor of a new 5-song "GROW BIGGER EARS" Playlist that will drop either this weekend or next week. I'm almost finished with it! Gotcha credited prominently, of course.

So much of my inspiration for future articles relies on my remembering this song or that song that meant something to me in real time, however many years or decades ago! HG's song had not entered my brain pan, yet, so it's cool when a fellow writer can make me go, "Oh, yeah! I remember that one!"

I just wrote a post about covers that are better than the originals. So I've been bingeing really old songs and recent covers. Do you have a nomination?

I'm rather partial to the 50 First Dates soundtrack that has several remakes of 80s songs. I definitely like Seal's version of Echo and the Bunnymen's "Lips Like Sugar" better.

I just went back and read this thread, holy s***, sounds like you are dealing with a lot. Music is definitely therapy for me, as well as for drowning out snoring!

Holy shit indeed! :) For the full story, check out my series called "On Being a Stem Cell Donor." A recent post called "Midweek Musings: The Brotherhood" will probably make you wonder how I'm surviving with all the things being thrown at me this year. But music. Ah, yes, music. Such therapy!

Just read that and part 1 on being a donor. Fyi I’m in biotech, and the lab in which I did my PhD was one of the first to try these sorts of transplants (without much success, we just didnt know enough then). You are a good writer.

Back to Tim Baker this morning. Can't get enough of that guy. I did have a dream last night that included a sampling of The White Stripes' "Ball and Biscuit" though...

I'm counting on your posts, Kevin, because my life is full of hospital visits and caregiving for my brother for three weeks following his hospital discharge from stem cell transplant for leukemia. You're reminding me that "music has charms to soothe the savage breast" (feeling very savage today because we are like oil and water) and giving me ready-made playlists to make it easy. Currently enjoying today's list to drown out the snoring of the sibling on the sofa. So Far So Good.

If I can make your day even a little bit brighter I'm honored to do so. Sounds like a tough road over the next few weeks. I'll see what i can do to make it easier. Hang in there!
