Happy Monday, and welcome to those of you that joined us over the weekend! It’s great to have you here. Below is a playlist featuring some of what I’ve had in heavy rotation.
More importantly, I’d like to hear from you. What’s been playing in your world? what should we all should all be checking out?
Not exactly music, but this week I've binged a religious philosophy podcast hosted by a Director of the British Museum called "Living With The Gods". It's as if David Attenborough is talking you through the history of religion, with a gripping narrative and insightful discussions. Highly recommended!
A couple of things for me. The Podcast Crooked City - about Youngstown, Ohio and the mob. Fascinating and multi-layered podcast. Just great. If you like mob stuff, you'll like this ... and then wonder why Martin Scorcese hasn't done a movie about it... yet.
Musically - completely into the band Ivy's album Apartment Life from 1997. It's fantastic!
1. The Beths. I saw them live this weekend, and they included the 3 singles from their new album coming out next month into their set. What a great show.
Any more you can suggest adding, to make a full apocalypse album (or even a doomsday double)?
This was used to help promote the music themed novel I've just launched on Substack challenge69.substack.com so if you like the playlist please give the book a try, I think you'll love it!

That sounds like my kind of rabbit hole!
Good, check it out and let me know your favourite episode! Mine is the one about water's significance in religions across the world.

In Youngstown?! You've definitely got my curiosity piqued.
My Morning Jacket! Finally saw them for the first time this weekend in New Mexico 🙏🏻 Waited six years for that.
Right on! Sounds like it was well worth the wait?
Absolutely, but I don’t plan on waiting another six years!
The Undertones track is really catchy!
I'm glad you liked it! :)
Hey y’all! I’ve been meaning to contribute...here is my heavy rotation playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Hg2mAhIuHWcLSlVjZMloW?si=UfQWg7hMQ-O_vMr71CdS4Q nothing super ground breaking but some comfortable favorites in here
I'm really looking forward to the Death Cab record coming out!

2. Chronic Town. 40th anniversary? Impossible, but go ahead and take my middle age disposable income R.E.M.
There's absolutely no way that record is turning 40.
10 maybe. 15 tops. Right?
I'm listening to The Beths as I type this. Really liking the sound here!
Cheat Codes by Dangermouse and Black Thought.
Such great production!
+1
I spent a good part of this morning listening to it. Sounded better each time.
Amanda Shires' Take It Like a Man!!!
Yes! That's been on my "to listen to" pile for far too long already.
So here's a playlist I created last week of my top five 'Apocalypse Songs' https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0zSdKVknxsEKxHjfkWMQSR?si=7ec19b0c523543ed

How about Fishbone's "Party At Ground Zero?"
Just listened to it, ska for the end of the world, a good way to go!
My own favourite reader suggestion though was 'Everyday Is Like Sunday', who on earth knew that was an apocalypse song?
This playlist that the band Slint made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their masterpiece, Spiderland: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5kGHzAF5uqP8kMvUZ1OgFo?si=f4f3f3a385b642e9
Mekons, Nick Drake, and Ry Cooder as you leadoff order is always a good sign!
I got Beethoven's 5th on repeat and a story idea brewing...
I like the sound of that!
saw the killers last night and have been listening to their hits record non stop since
