That Horsegirl album is indeed great. Does anyone else get Stereolab vibes from the song Switch Over?

Definitely cool. 2025 is still young, but I suspect it’ll be on a lot of AOTY lists come December.

1991 is amazing! I love the snapshot of teenage Greg and Paula it gives. And of course I had to add Brief Candles to my Spotify if you were gonna namecheck Drop Nineteens and YLT. I have high hopes!

I don't know any of these Kevin and I need to figure out that Qobuzz platform. Are there any individual tracks you'd recommend from these albums?

“State of Motion” on the Immersion record is a fave. Very cool vibes and a great sound. “Relief” is my fave Brief Candles track, “Switch Over” and “Post/Wall” take the title for Horsegirl, and CuVa Bimö respectively.

As for Qobuz, be sure to check out tomorrow's post (2/22) for something cool with the platform.

I haven't come across Brief Candles in my short time here, so I appreciate the heads up. I dig them and am following them on IG now.

Listening to Nanocluster, Vol. 3 now. Reminds me a bit of Marconi Union in a good way.

I'm still on the fence about the new Horsegirl after a few listens, but am intrigued enough to keep listening.

Thanks for the reviews!

I’m liking Horsegirl more as I listen to it another time or three. I had never heard Brief Candles and really enjoying them! Anxious to check the rest of your recommendations, and I need to review your archive for Wire info . . . That’s a band I’ve always heard about but barely explored.

I hope you find a new favorite band! Wire has gone through several iterations, style-wise, but I love them all.

IBTABA is my favorite record of theirs, and I covered it here: https://open.substack.com/pub/thekevinalexander/p/with-color-in-your-life-theres-a?r=3cbf2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

Pink Flag is part of one of the best 3 record runs I know of. it made it into my top 5 of all time here: https://open.substack.com/pub/thekevinalexander/p/wax-ecstatic-the-100-greatest-albums-e59?r=3cbf2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
