Heck yeah - the Texas/Spooner is chillingly good. If you ever get a chance to see Texas, don't miss it! Listening to new one inspired me to dig out their back catalogue, so good. Led me to Lone Justice next, etc...
Always have enjoyed Texas as a band, and this one doesn't disappoint. Thanks for passing it on because I hadn't heard of it before now (sadly). Damn, Sharleen Spiteri has such a lovely voice. Made me think of Alejandro Escovedo's latest effort, which also recasts a number of songs from his catalogue in a dramatically different way.
There was a song called The Hush by Rae and Christian that Sharlene sings lead vocal on which I am not sure was released as a Texas song. If you have not heard it check it out as her voice is glorious on it and it’s very un-Texas like.
Some great recommendations. I was fortunate to sit down with Spooner Oldham for my Wilson PIckett biography a decade back; his memory was sharp as a tack so perhaps it's no surprise he is still working hard away now. And I love the title of the Bodega album all around - and what an honor for an author like Michael. A couple MORE records added to the listening pile. Thanks for sifting through on our behalves Kevin.
Thanks Tony! I'm glad you found a few new ones to check out. How awesome that you were able to sit down with Oldham; that's some serious living history. I imagine it was a wonderful experience.
the Texas album is a keeper
Right?! Tbh, I wasn't sure what I might be getting into when I first put it on, but man, is it good!
That Texas LP is great, didn't even know about it till I read this!
That's why I'm here! :)

I'd love to see them! One of many still on the list...
One of these days, I'll try and do Lone Justice, well, some justice and talk about how much I love their first record.
If you get Spooner Oldham involved in your band's sessions, you've made it.
Indeed!

Definitely will give that a listen
I'm not sure I've heard it! Will definitely be on the hunt for it shortly.
Yes!
Speaking of Escovedo; if anyone is scrolling the comments, check out Glenn's piece on him!

I don't any of these Kevin! Where do you find your new music?
Oh man! All over the place. A few off the top of my head:
Bandcamp
WSUM (UW's radio station here in Madison)
Other Substackers
(non Substack) blogs
Medium/Twitter/Threads
A few shows on MixCloud
Good call on Local Drags! It's making for a good listen to balance out the Wolves getting drubbed by the Mavs.
Edited: Listening to Bodega now and digging this one, too.
I was totally (and shamelessly) on the Wolves bandwagon. Kind of bummed to see them go out the way they did.
Really glad you're digging Bodega & Local Drags! Lanny Durbin has an incredible dry wit that I wish I could do a better job of articulating.
