I dug the Heads' early stuff, Kevin...like "Pulled Up." I was working retail records at the time, and also working closely with the Houston area rep for Warner Bros. Records (Sire Records' parent and distributor) on the punk/new wave stuff Sire was coming out with in droves (and the occasional record jacket).
And, because the parent label couldn't care less about new wave (just ask the Ramones!), I was doing my part in laying out promo materials at my store that he'd get for all the Sire acts! Anyway, all that blather means is that I'm partial to their debut, and slightly beyond.
Plus, I have a challenge to your opening "what can be said that hasn't already been said about the Heads" (I can pick up a cue!): Somewhere in '77 or '78, on their first or second tour stop in Houston, I played pinball backstage with David Byrne at the Texas Opry House.
Again, in the cowpoke bastion of country-western music that was Houston at the time---for punk/new wave in Houston in '77/'78, these acts were lucky if a dozen people showed up at their shows, so they were anxious to have visitors after gigs!! I do recall Chris and Tina being really sweet, as brand spanking newlyweds! Thanks, Kevin!
Talking Heads! Always and Forever. The next two albums--Fear of Music and Remain in Light--are my favourites. But it's all good, 77 included. If I had a band, I would want it to sound like this.
first few lines is allllllllll me!! I liked this one!
Thank's for widening my musical horizon :)
I’m happy to hear it!

These are my favorite kinds of stories, and you’re right; there /was/ more that could be written. 😀

Same here! Maybe one day.
Remain in Light is a great album, though I love the “Once in a Lifetime” version from Stop Making Sense.
I must've listened to that record 1000x. Even now, I find something new; a note here, a chord there. It's a masterpiece!
