Ooh I have those Aztec Camera and O.M.D. on vinyl. I’m going to be taking my middle son to my favorite local record store this week. Interested to see what he picks with his gift certificate.
Sounds like a great haul! I'm a fairly new reader so I didn't know this used to be a regular thing, but I'm glad you brought it back! I've often considered writing something similar myself. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. Glad you enjoying it, and I’ll keep sharing my finds. If you do write about yours, please share it! I’d love to check it out.
I am the kind of sucker who would have bought that dB's for someone who I know didn't;t have a copy. Nice score. Happy I could help lead you to some vinyl purchases. ;)
I looooved the way you described the scene. It made me feel like I was right there!
Cool additions! Loved your thought process as well (I also shortlist and then discard lol). Records compete with each other, so we gotta have options, right?
I am so down with reading about people's weekly crate digging finds. Thanks for sharing. I was out helping my sons search down some cards (one collects Pokémon cards and the other sports cards), so of course they had to indulge my collecting pit stops as well. We hit a used shop that has books, music and cards. We all had some minor scores. Mine included some 7" nostalgia from the 80's (which of course I called 45s at the time):
1) Van Halen "Love Comes Walking in," which has "Summer Nights" as the B side. That seems rather generous of the label, as "Summer Nights" was a bit of an anthem for my friends and I in the late 80's.
2) David Lee Roth "Yankee Rose"
3) INXS "The One Thing"
Love the original sleeve art on all of these. Thanks for reading.
P.S. Listening to Romeo Void right now. So good. Your explanation of what MTV/marketing did to their career is downright heartbreaking. Damn.
It’s a shame, really. You’ve probably already seen it, but VH1 had a show called “Bands Reunited,” and Romeo Void was on. They get into it a little bit, but you can tell all these years later that it still stings.
I quite like Aztec Camera's take in Jump but it may not be for everyone. Their cover of the Blue Orchids Bad Education and their cover of Time After Time are worth looking for as they are single b-sides
Love reading a fellow record haul! So interesting to hear about different record sales and how they happen / feel / look like like in diff states and countries. Feels like there’s a fair in LA every weekend but never low key at a bar. Love it
I thought for sure I’d get it home and find it unplayable, but nope; it’s in fine shape.
Finally found Costello's Imperial Bedroom (Geoff Emerick, producer). My short list of things I still want on vinyl is now one item shorter.
Bedroom not ballroom! I fixed it. Apologies, I was listening to Paul's Ballroom Dancing while I was typing...
Right on! Always feels good to cross a long standing item off the list.
yes, but soon I will have no list. and then what will I do in record stores...?
Why, you make a new list, of course! 😃
🤔😂😎
Planning to go this week and then next week, hitting a big antique mall in Charlotte. Will report soon with a new Dig it! column.
Happy hunting! I’m looking forward to reading about it.
The Nancy Wilson record is a classic - enjoy!
Thank you!
What a great weekend!! And scores! I’m sure your 7 new babies will be happy in their new home with their adoring new Dad.
lol. I am a doting parent.
Of that, I have no doubt. ;)
Nothing new this weekend, the last thing I found was a bikini kill album, but I think we've already discussed that.
I'm headed to Portland next week and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can find and what's still around in my old stomping grounds.
Home! Fantastic. Would love to hear about your travels and what you wind up picking up!

lol. I’m glad you did. It’s gonna be a cool show.

Hell yea to the dollar bin Hiatt find!
Right?!
Romeo Void, yes! So good!
Cannonball is always a sure fire hit and with Wilson, woah! Dreamy!
I was definitely happy to bring that one home with me.

I’m on it!
I had the "Never Say Never" EP by Romeo Void. The one with the "fuck" lyric clearly audible.

No fairs up here (maybe in the summer?), but this was sure fun.
