I'm a "Drive" kinda guy but anything by The Cars is great in my book. Ric's production credits are wild as well! A good bar jukebox is something I've missed during the pandemic. I've got too many favorite dives to list - when I lived in NYC, I had a "Manhattan By Dive Bar" tour that everyone visiting was a big fan of!
I love it! I've really missed the jukebox as well. I don't drink that much anymore, so when we're out, that's one of the things I really pay attention to.
I used to live above Hamburger Mary's in the south of market (San Francisco), back in the '80's, and I'd go downstairs for a beer and pinball, frequently. The place was a restaurant, with a room in the back with the pinball machines and a DJ spinning records. He played The Cars in his rotation, and I would dance, even though I'd be the only one.
There was a karioke bar in El Cerrito, across the bay from SF, where I spent time in 2015. I would sing "Let the Good Times Roll", often. People not only sang, but got up and danced.
Now I frequent the local Native American Casino on the rock band nights. When the cover band takes a break, I go into the bar and play "My Best Friend's Girl" on the jukebox, and dance (that, and Keith Richards' "Eileen").
Took me a long time to find satisfaction in free-style--The Cars certainly helped.
Drive remains my favourite song. Shake it Up is okay, but lacks that powerful presence that Drive does.
It took me a long time to warm up to "Drive." I was a kid when it came out, and it just wasn't my thing then.
Great song from a terrific band. Man, the sunglasses on Ric though! You could safely look at a nuclear explosion with those.
Lol. Right?
