Good morning! I want to thank each of you that joined in on the last discussion. Sharing music with you (and one another) is the reason the project exists, and it was amazing watching the thread grow.
Here’s a bit of what I’ve been listening to this week, and I’d love to hear from all of you again.
So what’s on heavy rotation in your world? What should we all be listening to?
P.S. from your today's playlist I enjoyed the most "Lights Out, Words Gone" (somehow I totally forgot about this song), and "Stars" by The Clean, that I haven't heard before 🎶
Strange! It must be a regional issue, as the link works just fine here on the isle of Formosa!
Album (which also includes the classic PiL anti-apartheid anthem Rise) is a wonderful example of what producer Bill Laswell (who also plays bass on the record) calls "collision music": assemble a motley crew of musicians with seemingly incongruous influences and see what happens.
I was having a very Good Friday 13th and while in Panera of all places, they started playing “Get On The Good Foot” by James Brown. So it’s going to be a soul and funk week.
Check out the newest issue of Mojo. Reviews of the most recent live show released by the Stones (a 1977 club date), the Combat Rock reissue, an article on Lou Reed’s earliest VU demos, and a deep dive into Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust.” Great read along to your playlist.
I'm vibing to Tipper. Super trippy but somehow super relaxing.

I'd written about "Lights out" a long time ago, but had forgotten it as well. I popped into my head one day recently, and stuck around for a while.
Yes!
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s Deep Dive and Fontaines D.C.’s Roman Holiday
The whole "Endless Rooms" record is really growing on me.
Lights by Journey, off their album titled Infinity.
Always a favorite.
Timeless!
Diving into Mary Halvorson's latest - a most intriguing mix of the jazz avant-garde and 20th century classical music. Also building a Yacht Rock playlist for the summer: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4m3vytDNRz8x141smRmAtY?si=z_c6NH8XSJS1nq15ghbMuA&utm_source=copy-link

That specific link didn't work, but FFF is fantastic! And Steve Vai, Ginger Baker, and PIL is one wild combo!
If anyone's curiosity is piqued, here's a different link to the same track:

Love the new Hazel English on your playlist, Kevin! I'm a big fan of hers.
The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention
Diving into this one here shortly!
The Ivy's 2020 album We Move Faster At Night. Classically synth pop
I'll take all the synth pop you've got!

Right on! if you're in the mood for more soul/funk, this compilation is great:

The new Black keys and Father John Misty--still grooving to Wish You Were Here and Atom Heart Mother!
There are at least 3 Pink Floyd albums I didn't know existed until Sunday's' discussion; Atom Heart Mother is one of them. That was a blast!
It definitely was, and AHM is soooo good.
. . . and so underrated
What were the other 2?
Piper at the Gates of Dawn & Meddle (which I originally misheard, and wrote down as "Metal").
"Here's To Life" album by Shirley Horn. I can't stop listening.
This looks goooood! Adding it to listen to later today.
This week is all about old school Stones, lotta Iggy, lotta Ramones, Velvet Underground, and some Clash thrown in for good measure.
Always a man of discerning taste! :)

Oh man, that's heavy duty! I'll definitely check that out. Thank you so much for telling me about it!
