You Make Me Wanna Shout!
A request for help with a project
If you’ll indulge med like to try something a little different today
An online friend recently announced his engagement on Twitter. That’s obviously a cause for celebration and a clarion call for music. I have some of my own ideas on songs for the reception, but I thought it’d be fun for us all to put something together— a crowd-sourced wedding gift, for lack of a better term.
For a couple planning their day, tt seems easy enough, right? You start the list by checking the usual boxes;
Something you both love.
Perhaps a song from your first date.
Maybe something for the first dance, and definitely something sure to get the new in-laws out there “fast dancing.”
Don’t forget something for the cool aunt that takes all your little cousins out on the floor.
But maybe it isn’t? I’m pretty sure we’ve all been to enough receptions to have heard some really good sets and some realllly bad choices (pro tip: putting “Careless Whisper” on the list might not have the charm you think it does). It sure is good for getting all of the guests to talk to one another, though. You’ll have to trust me on this one.
So that’s where we come in: This is one of the best music hive minds going, so whatever you’ve got, throw it in the mix. Old standards and future classics; all are welcome.
We don’t run ads here. On Repeat is made entirely possible through the support of our paying supporters. If you enjoy what we’re doing, please consider becoming one.
Don’t overthink it! The last thing I want is for this to be a homework assignment. You can add as many or as few as you like by commenting below, replying to this email, or adding them to the playlist via this link. I’m pretty sure I’ve set it up to be collaborative. But I’m also old, so really it could go either way.
If you’ve got a story behind your pick(s), that’s even better! Please share it. That goes double if you’ve got a better title for this thing.
Let’s see what we can put together! I have no idea how this will end up—or if it’ll even work— but I know it’s better than getting them a set of dish towels.
Thanks for being here,
