Good morning & happy Monday! It’s the last week of school for many people; if that’s you—or your kids—congrats on making it through another year! Huge shout out to any of you graduating.
Here’s a bit of what I’ve been listening to, but I’d like to hear from you too.
What’s currently on heavy rotation in your world? What do you think we should all be listening to? What upcoming releases are you looking forward to?
I shared Mantronix with you via Twitter, but a completely different song that is in quite heavy rotation in my world, although mostly not by my choice, is the song Stefania by Kalush Orchestra. This Ukranian band were the winners of the Eurovision song contest held recently. Last Friday, on our kids' school (they still have a few weeks to go) a Talent Show was held. One of my son's friend performed a song with her brother. This song. Their mother is from Ukraine, and the family houses several refugees. One of them, a 16 year old girl, came to play the guitar while the kids were performing. So, I do not really like the song, but it has a story to it at the moment, that makes it one more of us should listen to: https://songwhip.com/kalush/stefaniakalushorchestra
That's a great story! The song's kinda catchy too. Do you read Midweek Crisis? Stygi recently put together a playlist of Ukrainian artists/music. It's awesome:
Lately, it's been listening to my fellow Canadian Glenn Gould play Bach's "Goldberg Variations" at both the beginning and the end of his career, thanks to a CD compilation. A nice antidote to the BS and opportunism I find everyone on the Internet and media these days.
Rick Rubin recently interviewed all 4 members for his podcast. I hadn't had the band on my radar for awhile, but the series put them back on it. I haven't heard the new one yet, but people seem to really be liking it!
I've been listening to the new album from Kae Tempest "The Line is a Curve" and then listening to their previous works as well. A nice recomendation to anyone who appreciates london rap with a lot of synths.

I'm with you; I've found myself running faster & faster away from those sort of transactional relationships.
The Very Best of Sandie Shaw
I’ve been binging Bon Iver’s discography since I saw them live for the first time last Friday!
Nice! I see that the Eaux Claires festival he started is supposed to return this year, but don't know if it actually will. I'd love to go if it does.
My friend Brick just released a new song called "Ball of Gold", and it's really great:

This has an easy groove to it, that I dig. The horns are nice too.
Currently "Introducing..." by Aaron Frazer, 2021
Currently I'm thrilled about the newest Jungle songs - "GOOD TIMES" and "PROBLEMS" 🔥🔥🔥 https://open.spotify.com/album/2j8Bsbbqb9EyS1ajAq3GME?si=49YSfLkSR0qqkxOw_f8Tqg
Playing "Problems" as I type this! These sound really good on my speakers at work.
I'm listening to old R&B, blues, and getting nostalgic with '80s music.
Nice! Anyone specifc?
Currently I'm stuck on listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers new album Unlimited Love. It's slowly soaking in my soul day by day. Enjoy your night!!!

Great lost! That Phoenix song is fantastic!
Starcrawler. Have you heard them? Also: The Kills. No matter what anyone says, rock and roll is far from dead.
I have not! I'll get 'em cued up to listen to here shortly.
This one feels as relevant now as it did back in '88:

It sure does! I haven't heard this in years.

Another new one for me. I'll give it a spin!
Aretha, Buddy Guy, BB King, Eric Clapton, REM, Pat Benatar
Enjoying some of the new Shintaro Sakamoto
https://open.spotify.com/album/2kSV9jRU3B346I5qUYr82i
Formerly the vocalist of Yura Yura Teikoku, he's embarked on a prolific solo career since the band called it quits.
I just found Yura Yura Teikoku through the No Filler podcast, and really liked what I heard. Excited to check out Sakamoto's stuff!
Tommy Guerrero - White Sands
I love the steady groove and smoothness of this track. It’s a really nice summer drive song.

I’m off to check it out!
